How the solar times are produced

The page calculates sunrise and sunset locally from the date, geographic coordinates and time zone. Values are not copied from a weather forecast and are displayed to the nearest minute.

Clock changes are applied through the stated IANA time zone. During polar day or polar night, the table reports the astronomical condition instead of inventing a clock time.

Understanding accuracy

The calculated time describes a standardised horizon. Mountains, buildings, elevation, atmospheric conditions and the actual observation point can shift the visible rise or set by several minutes. Photography, navigation or safety-critical planning should therefore also use an appropriate local specialist source.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about sunrise and sunset

Do the times apply throughout Lithuania?
No. The values apply to Vilnius at the stated coordinates. At a location farther east or west, the Sun may rise and set noticeably earlier or later.
Are daylight-saving time and clock changes included?
Yes. The output uses Europe/Vilnius. If a clock change applies there, the displayed local time changes automatically on the relevant date.
Why can the visible sunrise differ from the table?
The calculation uses a standardised horizon. Mountains, tall buildings, elevation and atmospheric conditions affect when the Sun actually becomes visible at a particular observation point.
What do polar day, polar night and a single solar event mean?
At high latitudes, the Sun may not set or may not rise during a local calendar day. During a transition, only one rise or set may fall within that date. The table identifies these cases explicitly.
