Detailed guide

How to use the countdown

Create a personal countdown

Enter the target date, time and an optional label. The remaining duration is split into days, hours, minutes and seconds. While the page remains open, the display updates once per second and stops at zero.

One countdown day equals 24 hours. A switch between daylight-saving and standard time can affect the actual number of hours to a distant target. The page uses the configured application time zone, Europe/Berlin by default.

Suitable events for a countdown

A countdown is useful for birthdays, trips, examinations, launches, project milestones and New Year. A clear label helps distinguish several calculations in separate browser tabs. The label and target can form part of the URL, so do not enter confidential information. Use the date calculator when only a day interval is needed.

The live display depends on the page staying open and the device clock being correct. When the URL is reopened, the remaining time is calculated again from the target timestamp.

Time zones and binding deadlines

For an international event, confirm its announced time zone and convert the target to the application time zone shown on the page. A statement such as “12:00” is not globally unambiguous without a time zone, and this tool does not infer a foreign zone from an event name.

For submissions and booking deadlines, the official server time and rules of the responsible organization remain decisive. Network delay and inaccurate device clocks make a web countdown unsuitable as the only evidence of timeliness.
